LS Engine Builds

LS engine builds and strokers, built in-house

LS engines are what Sam's Performance is known for. From a fresh 6.0 litre to a forged 427 cubic inch stroker ready for a big Harrop blower, every SP Built engine is assembled in our Greenacre workshop by the family that has been doing this since 1990.

Built for the power you actually want

Every build starts with a conversation: what the car is used for, what fuel it will run, whether it is boosted, and how much power you want to make. From there we spec the combination, from bore and stroke to heads, cam and valve train, so the parts work together instead of fighting each other.

Our stroker builds run from 383 through 402 and 416 to 427 cubic inches, with forged bottom ends using brands like Callies cranks and rods and Diamond pistons, and cylinder heads from Mast Motorsport and Higgins. They cover the whole LS family: LS1, LS2, LS3, LSA, LS7 and LSX.

Tested before it is trusted

Sam has never believed in using customers as guinea pigs. As he told Street Machine: "There's nothing I haven't tested… I do my homework on my own stuff and I develop it 100 per cent, so there's no guesswork when a customer comes to me."

Engines can be run in on our engine dyno before they go anywhere near your car (Jamie's SP427 made 1080hp on it), then the finished car is tuned on our hub dyno. Our motto has always been simple: do it right, do it once.

Engines sent around the world

Over the years Sam's Performance has grown into one of the leading LS engine building and tuning shops in Australia, with engines and tuning programs sent as far as the USA and the UAE. Interstate and overseas builds are welcome; call us to talk through freight and fitment.

LS Engine Builds FAQs

What size LS stroker engines does Sam's Performance build?

Sam's Performance builds LS strokers in 383, 402, 416 and 427 cubic inch combinations, along with standard-capacity SP Built engines, using forged components such as Callies cranks and rods and Diamond pistons. Each combination is specced to suit the car, the fuel and whether it will be supercharged.

How much power can a supercharged LS stroker make?

Results from Sam's Performance builds include a VE GTS with a 402ci stroker and Harrop 2300 supercharger making over 700 rwhp on 98 pump fuel, a VF SS with a 416ci stroker and Harrop 2650 making 800+ rwhp on pump 98, and a built 427 with a Harrop 2650 making more than 1000 rwhp. Power always depends on the full combination and fuel.

Do you dyno test engines before they are installed?

Yes. Sam's Performance has an engine dyno at its Greenacre workshop, so engines can be run in and tested before installation. Jamie's SP427 with a Harrop 2650 made 1080hp on it. Finished cars are then tuned on the workshop's hub dyno.

Can you build an engine for a customer outside Sydney?

Yes. Sam's Performance has sent engines and tuning programs as far as the USA and the UAE. Call (02) 9708 3333 to discuss your build, freight and fitment.
